Aurora iam spargit polum,

terris dies illabitur,

lucis resultat spiculum:

discedat omne lubricum.


Iam vana noctis decidant,

mentis reatus subruat,

quicquid tenebris horridum

nox attulit culpae, cadat,


Ut mane illud ultimum,

quod praestolamur cernui,

in lucem nobis effluat,

dum hoc canore concrepat.


Deo Patri sit gloria

eiusque soli Filio

cum Spiritu Paraclito,

in sempiterna saecula. Amen.


English

The dawn now scatters the sky,

on to the earth the day descends,

the light's spike resounds:

Let all impurity depart!


Now may the vanities of night wither,

may the mind's accusations overthrow,

whatever in the darkness is horrid

that the night of guilt carries, may it fall,


So that, in the morning, that final one,

which we await prostrate

into the light for us may it flow forth

while this song rattles along.


To God the Father may Glory be

and to His only Son

with the Spirit Paraclete,

in everlasting ages. Amen.
